Armed Attack Reportedly Kills BJP Associate in West Bengal
The level of violence in West Bengal has risen following the electoral victory of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), culminating in the killing of Chandranath Rath, who is considered to be one of the major associates of the BJP’s prime candidate, Suvendu Adhikari. Rath was shot dead on Wednesday as he came back home from work, thereby becoming the third victim since the BJP gained the victory against the Trinamool Congress (TMC), whose rule spanned for fifteen years. The BJP emerged victorious and has secured 207 out of 294 seats in the state, but the transfer of power was marred by incidents such as arson, vandalism, and arrests of over four hundred individuals.
